As the Global Head of Internal Audit, my job is to keep an eye on what is happening across the Renaissance Group globally, so we make sure we are auditing the right things and the bank has a good control environment. Some days are spent travelling to overseas offices, others are spent in general relationship management meetings finding out what is going on. There is also time spent with my audit team who will be working through our annual audit plan.
I have worked in both operations management and internal audit for over 25 years. My previous employers include Royal Bank of Scotland, JP Morgan, and Bankers Trust.
The thing that first attracted me to Renaissance was the opportunity to build an audit department from scratch. I joined because there was a real ‘can do’ attitude from all of the people I met here. I also felt that the internal audit department could make a real difference to the success of the Group.
The culture is informal, entrepreneurial and fast moving. It can be a bit rough and ready sometimes but that is a good thing. It is certainly different to the other banks I have worked for.
The speed at which we get things done sometimes is impressive. Our drive into new markets, changes to our business, and the personal growth of individuals all happens much quicker than at other companies I have worked for.
The people who thrive here are self-starters, those with a positive attitude and a desire to grow both personally and with the company.
